Hello Everyone
Its been a while since I have written. Since then my Daughter Emma is now 13yrs.She has had a regular eye test and things have begun to show our optician referred us to an eye specialist at hospital. Regarding the Irling Syndrome mentioned last year Emma actually has Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome and "visual dislexia" which explains why things appear suddenly in eye sight although she has 20x20 vision and needs no glasses. The optometrist has come across this before at Jimmy's Leeds with RTS children and it is around teenager ie: 13yrs when it shows. Emma has further test to do. This is in May will let you know the results then. Just thought you would like to know after our earlier chat.
By the way, her drumming is coming along wonderfully, and has a complete set now. (cost a fortune). But worth it, she is also enjoying drama group and attends after school Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough.
I know its March but Happy New Year everyone.
Linda

Thanks for the update. Can you tell us a bit more about the SSS and the visual dyslexia - how do they affect Emma ? Great news about the drumming. It has been mentioned that we could have an RTS group playing at an event, as various committee members play instruments, including drums. If we do, perhaps Emma can help us out !

Hi everyone
As you can see its late one of those sleepless nights, so thought I would catch up on news.
Emma's Sight test results are now back, unfortunately her SSS and her visual Dyslexia is untreatable. It is something she will always live with. This is extremely frustating for Emma but, she has taken it in her stride like must things. Ok, was her reply, "but I'm not stupid." Good for her we all said. It has been caused by a short fuse in the brain, is how they described the condition, It is they tell me a condition of RTS, I would be interested if anyone else has come across the problem with there children. Reading and writing is one of the problems, but Emma's case became more apparent when she reached her teens. Instead of teachers just saying "it's learning difficulties" it actually is a condition. And is part of the severer side of dyslexia. Emma's tests were carried out at Hull General. What a huge place, needed a satnav just to find the loo. Ha Ha. Hope you all have a good summer hols.
Unfortunately, we do find your events too far for us to travel.
Linda

Hi Linda,

These conditions are not ones I've personally come across before, so it would be interesting to know if any of our other members have been affected by them. Even so, it would seem that they are rare even within RTS.

Sorry you haven't been able to make our get-togethers, but they do move around the country and, at some point, there will be one nearer to you, so hope to see you and Emma (with drums !) at one in the future.
