The weekend get-together for 2009 was held on the second weekend in May, at the Craig Tara holiday village in Ayr. The weekend was not only an opportunity to meet old friends, but for several families, it was the first occasion they had had the opportunity to join us and become part of the extended family that is the RTS Support Group. Although many people were unable to join us, those that did had a very enjoyable weekend, from the moment they checked in until the moment they checked out on Monday morning. The weather was relatively kind, and we all managed to enjoy the few heavy showers on Saturday, whilst the wind made walking quite bracing! On Sunday, the weather was glorious, and many people probably went home with a good sun tan. The weekend started with Friday afternoon check in, and free time during the evening to sample the facilities the site had to offer: many people had to be prised from the microphone in the Karaoke in the bar!!! On Saturday morning, there was an opportunity to chat over copious quantities of tea and biscuits and listen to an up date from Chris Oliver and his team about their research. We had an excellent buffet lunch after which there were discussion groups for the adults, whilst for siblings there was a forum to express their feelings and answer questions. On Saturday evening we enjoyed dinner all together, and then did some more 'bonding' in the bar (more karaoke!!!). A quiz was organised, which was later announced as being won by won by Gill Hart, despite a certain amount of attempted cheating by other attendees (you know who you are !) On Sunday the AGM was held with the Chairman's Report, and election of the Committee. Following the formalities, there were all the usual fun activities: tombola, the Annual Prize Draw, a chance to inspect the RTS merchandise at first hand (lots of very fetching outfits were sported on the return journey!!). If you have never attended one of our get togethers, please put Saturday 5 December, Wicksteed Park into your diary. I am sure that all attendees will reassure you that they are like joining a huge family party and we would all love to meet you.
